WHAT DRIVES PEOPLE TO K&B DUCT?

It wasn't too many years ago that Clamp Together Duct was thought of as a product used only for 'special' applications- applications where you 'had' to modify often, where you 'had' to clean out regularly or where you 'had' to be able to move- either to a new location or for re-arranging. Now, it is a standard duct used in almost ever general application where dust, fume, oil mist and other air borne contaminants are present.

So why has Clamp Together Duct, and in particular K&B Duct been so well received?.

Lets look at the duct first.

  • First and foremost, clamp- together-duct (c-t-d) has been received because salesmen sell it. Now on the surface that seems to be a benign statement BUT there is much more to the fact. Before 'c-t-d', a salesman had to be pushed by the customer into offering duct. After all, it required a sheetmetal mechanic to size/design, fabricate and field fit. With 'c-t-d' all of those requirement went out the window and even the uninitiated could install the infinitely adjustable duct. Therefore, the salesman discovered that he could offer it like any other 'packaged' product.
  • Second, the customers who order it love it, continue to use it and recommend it to others. At early IWFs (International Woodworking Fair) very few woodworkers would consider paying more for 'c-t-d'; especially when ducting in general was seen as a inconvenient necessity. Cheaper spiral was seen as a better choice. Almost 10 years later, scarcely a wood shop will tell you that it isn't the preferred choice.

Now, why K&B Duct?

  • Same reasons. The salesmen have found that K&B has not only combined an 'easy to sell and install' product with an INCREDIBLE level of support. In fact, the salesman has VIRTUALLY NO DESK TIME invested. NO layout time, NO design time, NO parts selection time, NO quoting time, AND NO customer hassles. IN SHORT, K&B Duct personnel take the layout and do all the work. They even provide the salesman and customer with a 'slick' 3D drawing that can be articulated to show the duct from ANY angle. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC in that it helps the customer look over the system prior to the order and then to look at the design during installation.

Product Introduction

Introducing 3D Design

K&B offers COMPLETE design and take-off service. All you or your customer needs to do is to provide us with a floor plan. This can be conveyed through a sketch that is faxed or emailed or our fun-and-easy drag and drop layout program.

From the sketch we will provide you with a 3D drawing that you can articulate using the free viewer. This is great for giving the customer the 'vision' for his duct system- both prior to the sale and during the installation.

Product of the Month

K&B Automatic Gates

K&B Duct makes a wide variety of special parts. This section is dedicated to showcasing those parts while indicating our ability to fabricate ANY PART to your specifications.

This month the product is the complete line of Automatic Gates- INDUSTRIAL GRADE.

3" and up. Galvanized or Stainless Steel.

K&B Automatic Gates are designed with heavy duty pneumatic cylinders for repetitive use- year after year after year.

They DO NOT require a control panel as electric gates do and they will operate individually as a machine/station is turned on. However, they can be tied to a VFD (variable frequency drive) thru a PLC and pressure regulator to control the fan motor to turn off/on OR to regulate the speed of the motor where energy savings is the goal.

K&B Auto Gates come in all sizes. Gates 3"-9" use one air cylinder. The gates over 10" use two. They require a min. of 75 psi (supplied thru 1/4" tubing) and the switching solenoid for the compressed air can be activated by 12v, 24v, or 120V AC/DC.

Application of the Month

K&B Clamp
Together Duct

K&B Clamp Together Duct is used a wide- wide variety of applications- from oil mist to wood to fiber to fume.

This section of our newsletter displays one of our recent sales in an effort to give indication of the diversity of application and customers.

This months application is in the wood industry.

Clamp Together Duct had it's early roots in wood. That's only natural as the wood industry faces large amounts of dust from many different machines and as machinery moves are more of the norm. Early users were mostly factories but today, even the small shop, including the home hobbies, see that they can install the duct themselves, modify regularly, and always have a product that is re-useable.

K&B, fully understands the wood industry and the collection requirements for the machinery. From the simple table saw to the more complex molders and CNC routers, K&B is able to recommend pick-up solutions that capture the dust.

More importantly, we are able to understand the requirements and restrictions faced by many shop owners. Very often the machines far out number the employees and therefore a blast gated system is the most economic and effective use of the resources. Designing a 'gated' systems requires the ability to listen to the owner's needs as much as it does understanding the unique flow requirements whenever a line is opened or closed. K&B is able to listen, design and optimize the duct system.

The picture below are from Yale University Hospital's wood shop. As you can see it is a pretty extensive shop.
