Once cylcones were the collection system of choice and constituted the entire filtration system. Tighter air quality regulations now require a secondary filtration to remove the small (micron) particles.

However cyclones are still very applicable in situations requiring pre-seperation, out door collection where height is an issue, material transfer to silos/hoppers, etc. etc.
